Monday, January 30 ~ First Day in Delhi

We sleepily got up at 8:30 this morning, because we had a group meeting at 10:00. The food I chose to eat from the breakfast buffet was tasty.

There are sixteen interesting well-traveled people in our tour group. Each of us told a little about ourselves. Cha-Cha-Cha also introduced herself when it was my turn.

Later when we boarded our full-sized tour bus, we could each have a double seat. I like it when we can spread out that way. Our male group leader, Ranvir, is a very experienced guide. We also had a female Delhi city guide named Manja. It was a beautiful clear, sunny day, so Ranvir decided to take us via bicycle-powered rickshaws to Old Delhi. The traffic was extremely heavy. It was quite the experience weaving in and out of cars. The streets were lined with vendors.

We visited Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India, where we women had to don colorful loose-fitting gowns to cover any female attributes. Shoes had to be removed too.

We visited Raj Ghat on the anniversary of Ghandi’s assassination, January 30, 1948. There was a special ceremony in his honor at his memorial. He had been shot then cremated. The grounds were beautifully landscaped with colorful flowers and expansive stretches of lawn.

We then went to a restaurant to have a special welcoming dinner.

Saturday/Sunday/Monday, January 28-30 ~ Flight to India

Saturday/Sunday/Monday, January 28-30 ~ Flight to IndiaIt was beautiful weather to fly. Kevin drove us expertly to the San Francisco Airport for our first of two Lufthansa flights. The first 11-hour flight was from San Francisco to Frankfort. The second 7 1/2 hour flight was from Frankfort to New Delhi. The Airbus A380-800 was so huge that it must have taken an hour for everyone to get their luggage! We were met by an OAT representative and driven to the hotel. We didn’t get to bed until 4:30 A.M.

Friday, January 27, 2017 ~ Hummingbird Visitors

Today is Paul’s and my 55th wedding anniversary!  We are finished packing, and I think we are ready to go to India tomorrow.  It is a beautiful sunny day, and I have been enjoying watching the hummingbirds feed at our feeder.
